Hello Jeremy,

I have a project in mind that requires controlling 108 12v fans (0.4ma). I want to do this with Arduino but can’t find any board with that many pins. I bought Peggy2Le board but it turns out the 625 pins (LEDs) it provides are PWM. Any suggestion?

You probebly want to delete this comment and email me.

I got a DSO Nano today and upgraded the firmware, thx to you.
Thank you

Hi Amir, the Peggy2LE uses multiplexing, so that wouldn't be the best tool to use for controlling fans. The fans would all have to be controlled via transistor because they are 12V and the Arduino boards, as well as most microcontrollers, are 5V. There is no "stock" way to do this, but it definitely can be done.

One possible solution, and the easiest, would be to use shift registers. This would require only 3 pins from an Arduino, and you can have 14 shift registers (74HC595) with 8 outputs each, giving you a total of 112 outputs from only 3 pins.

Please see my post on controlling High current loads here:

Hi Jeremy,

Thx for the reply.

Can give more detail about the  technique you mentioned (using shift register 74HC595). Its sounds much simpler than my method of using Peggy board,

Sure, I'll do a post on how they work, it will go a lot farther than my words. 🙂

How long can a man be alone? Lack of a companion to spend evenings and nights certainly has more than one word. But what if you are shy and it's hard for you to talk to some girl on the street or in the club? Visit hampstead-escorts-girls.co.uk
