Problem solved: I used the boot loader for the pro mini 3V 8Mhz and everything works OK.

I'm having trouble uploading Since I see an LED attached to PB5 blink and then slowly pulse after reset, I assume the boot loader is installed and operating correctly.

I'm using the 328P-AU at 8MHz with a Sparkfun 3.3V FTDI. I suspect the boot loader expects to be running at 16MHz and so it is miss timing the UART signals from the Arduino app. Do you think this is my problem, and if so, can I get chips with a boot loader for an 8MHz system clock?
